How to make your home World Cup worthy without sacrificing style
Go big with the green and gold. (We only get to do it once every four years.)
Are you into the Springboks in the Rugby World Cup, but not like into it? Then this is for you. We have come up with a couple of easy, scalable and customizable decorating tips to embrace the Rugby World Cup season without trampling on your personal style.
These novel (and fun) ideas are ideal for when you want to join in the excitement and show your support but you can’t get your head around the thought of dying your hair green until the end of the month or wearing your Faf-speedo to do your shopping
Our first decorating tip is to use colour and different shapes and textures of art pieces to create an accent or feature wall.
If you are feeling adventurous you can take a bit if dead wall space and liven it up with a bright paint colour, and then find al kinds of different maximalist proudly South African objects and images to add to the wall. Pick a theme and think outside the bo(k)x.
For accent wall colour inspirations look at these proudly South African paint colours. For a rich gold we like “Sitting leopard” and our green choice is “Lala Palm”.
Go for gold!
If you choose a deep green wall, nothing is stopping your from going completely golden with your art pieces. Think metallics, brass and gilt. Have a look at these ceramic Springbuck metallic horns from Rialheim.
Make the most of your space.
As for the art pieces, look for everyday objects and vintage items with a springbuck theme (the animal, not the rugby players) or go for anything and everything in the colours of the South African flag. The whole idea is to have a vibrant collection of coherent pieces. Choose a theme or colour and use each piece to enhance it.
Play around with different mediums, styles and origins. A beaded springbuck skull next to a framed comic strip of something sports related and an antique bit of springbuck memorabilia will draw attention and show your creative spirit.
This antique Wedgewood plate could be an interesting piece for your wall.
Go for odd numbers (3, 5 and 7) and play around with a mix of shapes.
Round, square, oval, and rectangular shapes can give your accent wall an interesting dynamic. Luckily the internet is full of inspiration for feature wall groupings.

Have fun in the bathroom
Bathrooms are wonderful places. You can get away with so much and really embrace your inner Kitch. This is where you get to look around for the most way-out bric-a-brac and bring the rugga vibes home. Novelty toilet paper and removable toilet seats, cringy calendars on the back of the loo-door, terribly dry joke books – this is where you get to ditch the shame and just embrace the magic. Line up the linens.
Tablecloths and blankets are fun ways to enjoy the vibes of any given season without getting overly committed to a certain design trend or décor style. (The best thing is, once the World Cup is over you simply fold these up and store them for the next four years.)
If you love to a good DIY project consider this unique Springbuck Stamp material for scatter pillows or a tablecloth.
It doesn’t really matter whether you wrap your home in green and gold or go for the understated look, as long as you love it, and more importantly, as long as you promise to be there for the Boks regardless of what happens!
