Nelléne Louw is a talented and creative artist residing in the Green South of Johannesburg. She has been painting and sketching her whole life, but it was during the COVID-19 lockdown that she explored new techniques and took her art in a bright new direction.
“Lockdown unlocked my creativity when I realised I needed new challenges. I started experimenting with different paints and techniques, which led to my contemporary, modern art pieces. I have had no formal training, but simply a need to be creative,” she says.
Her artwork can be viewed at the Thaba Eco Hotel and Kraal Restaurant, where she was commissioned to create a large number of specific paintings to complement their decor. Nelléne explains that the process for each piece differs.
“I am inspired by bold colours and their interaction with one another. I do not plan or sketch as I am led by my imagination and the client’s request for specific colours when I start with a blank canvas. My paintings are bold and emotive.”
Nelléne recently debuted her new work at the Johannesburg HOMEMAKERS Fair as Nelléne Specific Art. “I have been producing commissioned pieces for clients for many years, but feel the time is right to share my work with the broader public. As conventional frames would not suit my artwork, I have also designed vibrant frames to showcase each piece,” she adds.
With prices ranging between R1 500 and R150 000, her work promises to speak to art lovers and collectors alike.
