Keeping up with kitchen trends
Kitchens have always been the heart of a home. As a space that is not just about cooking up a storm but often spaces where we entertain or inevitably end up when guests arrive, kitchens need to be multi-functional and welcoming.
Modern building trends have seen kitchens expand in open plan designs that incorporate the kitchen into other vital living spaces. We are now seeing kitchens expand into the online realm while throwing caution to the wind with dark colours, hidden spaces and bold patterns. Plain, light kitchens beware.
Seamless Space
Kitchens continue towards being streamlined and clean while still being warm and welcoming. The greater inclusion of technology has created a kitchen that you can talk to. From moving countertops that suit your space needs to WiFi-linked appliances that can be controlled with your phone, technology creates an almost effortless flow for the modern homeowner.
Concealed storage and built-in appliances are also a great way to create a seamless visual space. Handleless cupboards, concealed pantries and lower-level island storage make the most of your storage space while keeping things neat and tidy.
Moving Over to The Dark Side
Just to put it out there: Wholly light kitchens are out. This may seem strange but darker colours create the elegance and warmth needed to stop your seamless kitchen looking too clinical. Introduce a dark shade on the wall, matte black appliances or go all out with dark countertops and cabinetry. No matter what you choose, going over to the dark side is a must-do trend.
Pops of colour
Along with the darker shades, pops of colour are a way to add personality and fun to your kitchen. Go for a big, colorful splashback, vintage, colour appliances or patterned chairs in your seating area for a pop of colour. On trend colours are all inspired by nature. Think Pantone’s colour of the year, Living Coral or colours such as Hunter Green, deep blues and jewel tones.
Shining a Light on The Environment
Using as little power as possible is vital to saving you on your electricity bill and protecting the environment. Energy efficient, LED lights are great for lighting focal areas, under cabinet work spaces and toe kicks.
