Keep the holiday magic alive in your day-to-day space.
Bring Back More Than Tan Lines and a Sandy Car
Its about a vibe, not just another Décor switch.
We have written at length about switching up décor to create a happy home, about bringing in seasonal touches and about making the most of your home for Staycations…But what about keeping the holiday magic alive after you come back home?
We love the idea of choosing a few special elements of your holiday to celebrate year round.
Here are a few of our favourite ways to do this.
Recreate a relaxation zone
Think back to your favourite thing you did on holiday. Obviously, if it was swimming in the ocean, going on game drives, or hiking the Cederberg, it’s not that easy. However – if you also had fun reading, watching old movies, making something or building puzzles/playing board games, you can easily keep the magic alive once you are back home.
Set up a relaxation zone somewhere in your home that allows you to pursue this new favourite pastime and make time to do it at least once a week.
Pour yourself a cold one
Tastes and smells can instantly transport you back to a certain time and space. Let’s imagine you had a signature drink this season and now you are back home. There is no rule against recreating this drink at home! If it was a cocktail or mixed drink, teach yourself to make it. If it was a certain cultivar or brew, buy yourself a case. Obviously, moderation is key, but treat yourself to your holiday drink every now and then and take a moment to savour the memories that each sip evokes.
Listen your blues away
There is always a soundtrack to the summer. Whether it’s by choice or not. Some song will have played on repeat at restaurants, parties and rest stops and it would probably have been unavoidably catchy. As cringy as you might find it, lean into this and download or stream a few of these songs. Add them to your exercising or entertaining playlist and give an embarrassed chuckle every time you hear it. Remember – you make the rules, and don’t take life so seriously!
Picture your bliss
A sure-fire way to keep your holidays alive is to plaster them all over your walls. It’s simple. Frame your favourite pictures or print them on canvases or get digital photo displays or simply have them run as backgrounds and screensavers. Do what you can to keep the memories front of mind by creating SOMETHING with all those happy snaps. They don’t have to be perfect – just honest. Each captured moment can mean the world to you and your family, and we all know how much kids love to see themselves!

Yes, the holidays are over, but no one said we need to box up the happy memories along with our Christmas lights. Keep on twinkling and keep the magic alive, one sip, dance move and happy memory at a time.
