Local is lekker, and nothing is lekkkerder than a Tjhoko Paint project.
I’m more aspirational than inspired.
Storytime: I have a love/hate relationship with DIY home improvement projects.
When I was younger, and had basically no funds, no access to YouTube tutorials and very little know-how, I messed up a lot. I refinished furniture just to have paint stain my floor and clothing, but not stick to the bedside table I’m trying to redo. I have installed open kitchen shelves just to have them come crashing down, smashing my Pinterest inspired jars of brown rice and lentils. I have tried my hand at sowing, building, wallpaper-ing and even tiling. None of these projects were successful…until I discovered Tjhoko Paint.
(And yes – from here on out it’s a testimonial by a working, hands-on, mildly creative mom-of-many who loves a good revamp.)
This unique chalk-style paint is out of this world. (If you are a long-time reader of Homemakers, you know we love it for its versatility…)
Tjhoko Paint can be applied to almost any surface. It has a velvety, matt finish that’ll stand the test of time without needing extra wax or sealant.
I can attest to this. One of my first Tjhoko-projects was simply painting an old plastic kiddies table with ONE layer of Tjhoko Paint…its 7 years later and the kids have put the table through the gauntlet, but the paint stayed put. (I chose Tjhoko for this table because I know it is safe for all environments, including children’s nurseries.)
Tjhoko Paint is an easy way to transforms both indoor and outdoor spaces with its robust, non-toxic composition.
My husband always moans that the only real issue with my DIY-ing is that I don’t finish projects. But let’s be honest, with an army of kids and pets that constantly want walkies or snacks or cuddles, there really is no time for prepping, waiting, painting, waiting, second coats, waiting and sealing. If it can’t be finished within one nap time, its not happening.
That’s why I love Tjhoko! It adheres to an array of surfaces without the need for sanding or priming, just a simple preparation with Lacquer thinners. Ideal for a wide range of materials, including melamine, wood, metal, glass, wall tiles and fabric, Tjhoko Paint sets the stage for limitless creativity for both DIY’ers and Crafters.
So far, I’ve branched out and painted both my yucky distressed wooden bathroom cabinet, my own built-in cupboards, (yes, that took about 4 naptimes to paint all eight of them) and a number of kiddie furniture pieces. It’s been over 10 years, and Tjhoko hasn’t failed me yet.
I particularly love their great colourways.
I don’t have to fuss around with colour swatches or tiny tested bottles. I know – the colour of the bottle will be the colour of my project.
It is perfect for kitchen, bathroom and room makeovers, upcycling furniture and craft projects.
Where I will concede to going the extra mile for my project is to maintain my painted surface (especially in hi traffic, hi moisture zones like bathrooms and kitchens with a coat of their Clear Glaze. This also gives it great UV resistance, although my non-glazed plastic kiddie table has had 7 years of outdoor all-weather life without it fading or cracking.
The possibilities are endless with Tjhoko Paint, so we suggest you head over to the Tjhoko Paint YouTube channel and get lost in DIY inspiration!
