This weekend sees the much-anticipated Barbie movie hit the big screen. Life in plastic, as we know, is not always fantastic, but what is fantastic is Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse.
Even if pink is not your colour, you must appreciate the thought and detail that went into the creation of this three-story fuchsia fantasy house. The design was inspired by Richard Neutra’s Kaufmann House, the famous dessert home built in 1946 that is the epitome of midcentury modernism.
We are not delusional and know that the Dreamhouse is just a set, designed by Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer and is based at the Warner Bros. Studios outside London. But still, taking the set tour, sparked fond memories from our childhood when we too had a million dreams of how our very own dream homes would look, pink and not so pink.
The world ran short of pink paint during the production of the movie as they used up Rosco’s entire supply.
