Calm, comforting and contemporary….
The Pantone Colour of the Year (PCOTY) for 2024 has been announced and it’s already a classic:
Peach Fuzz
“A soft, pinkish-orange hue called “Peach Fuzz” is Pantone’s pick for the 2024 colour of the year, the company announced last week. Officially called “Pantone 13-1023 Peach Fuzz,” the colour is “velvety,” “gentle” and “subtly sensual.”
Colouring the Zeitgeist.
In the past few years Pantone’s colour trends have been all about lightness, tranquillity and comforting calm. From the mild tones of Illuminating and Ultimate Gray, to the gentle vacation for the eyes that was Rose Quartz and Serenity, Pantone has been hanging around at the pastel end of the spectrum these past few years.
The colour we crave.
We don’t know why this is the case, but we are loving it. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, these past three years have been insane on a global scale. We have had terrorist attacks, regional conflicts have flared up into active and protracted wars, international political turmoil is destabilizing once powerful countries and economies, and then, locally, we have a whole number of issues increasing the load on our shoulders…So let’s retreat into the comfort Pantone is offering us once more and give our lives and home a peachy, fuzzy, yummy glow of colour.
Peach Fuzz is very nearly a neutral colour.
It is the kind of colour that will work on and in anything from a painted feature wall, to a manicure, to a scarf or shirt. It’s magic lies in its unassuming appearance. You can play it up and make it the Hero Colour of your home-reno or wardrobe, or you can simply infuse your house with small touches of this uplifting, warm colour. Mild enough to be paired with many other colours, one of our favourite uses of Peach Fuzz as a colour way is in subtle home décor. Scatter cushions, table linens, flower arrangements and objet d’art can all add a hint of contemporary style to your home without overpowering your existing aesthetic.
Neutral isn’t boring.
The thing about a colour like Peach Fuzz is the way in which it plays a supporting role in your home décor. If you have a snazzy brown leather sofa, adding a couple of peachy decorative pillows and throws in luxury fabrics to your sitting area can bring out the warmth in your sofa and enhance your house’s cosiness factor.
Let’s take it to the bedroom
We have had a couple of years of blues, greys and forest greens as base colours for bedrooms, but why not shake it up?
If you are tired of these “cold” bedroom hues, Peach Fuzz is the answer. Start with an accent or feature wall and move on from there. Even if you just get a new pot for your resident bedroom plant to try the colour out before you commit, we promise you – these peaches will grow on you!
We have scoured the online stores, and while not everyone has picked up on the colour yet, we do have a couple of favourite things that are already for sale.
These bed linen hues evoke a Peachy Fuzz and we think they are a good start to embracing this colour trend.
Kitchen bits and bobs
KitchenAid (Ok – we know this one is actually pink, but we still love it!)
We haven’t found any furniture in this particular colour just yet, but we’re sure there will be offerings as soon as the new year kicks off. For now, any warm tones, from ochre to tan and even beiges and greys will work well with Peach Fuzz as an accent colour.
