Extend those glorious holiday vibes
Bring the holidays home…
The holiday shouldn’t end just because you’re home.
Don’t throw the happy holiday vibes out with the wet beach towels and sun hats.
We can all agree that it has been about 1000 years since the 1st of January. By now you are probably swamped with new projects and other unavoidable things like school sport days and financial year end tasks…But!
The tan lines might be fading, but the holiday vibes don’t have to.
It is not too late to take back a bit of holiday bliss. We spoke about keeping up some holiday traditions and maintaining that mindfulness, as the new year picked up speed. Now it is time to chat about small home upgrades that can keep the joy alive as the year rushes on.
Work with colour
There is a reason why “a lick of paint and a splash of colour” is always number one on any quick fix home décor list. It is because it works! Whether you had a beach, bush or mountain holiday, Bringing in some of the colours your experienced there can lift your mood and elevate your home.
To remember your bush break, think about a lush, dark green, deep brown, calm grassland hues and the warm blushes of sunrises on early morning game drives.
Bring the beach home with bright Mediterranean azures, “fruity drink” yellow’s and beachball brights. For a more muted beach vibe, think sea-foam greys, stormy Atlantic blues, Fynbos greens and purples. Really, whatever colours work for you.
Did you spend your holidays city hopping and going from flashy restaurants to lively nightclubs? Rich leather tones in charcoals, reds and browns can give you that Michelin star dinner club vibe. While brushed steel accents and metallic touches can give you back that velvet rope VIP section experience.
Picture it
Go old-school cool, and print and frame your favourite holiday pics. Too few people still do this! So why not proclaim 2025 to be the “year of the print-out”? Start by taking your happiest holiday snaps and blowing them up to A4 size. Whether you put them in frames, stick them on the fridge or even make an old-fashioned scrapbook, just make a point to physically have more memories around you. You’ll be momentarily transported back to the place the pic was taken. And that’s a vibe worth holding on to!
Leave out some memento’s (No – we promise this doesn’t count as clutter!)
Display that sunhat, the book you finished with your toes in the sand. The rocks and monkey balls your toddler insisted on bringing home from the bush. Even that tiny bottle of complimentary shampoo you brought back home. Leaving these memory ticklers out can put a smile on your face and might just brighten your day.
Stock your fridge/fruit bowl
We are still blessed with a couple of months of summer, and South Africa is world renowned for its fresh produce. Think back to your holiday and picture the food you ate. Chances are you ate much more fresh food than you usually do. Did you have sliced mango and papaya on the breakfast buffet? Did you eat grapefruit each morning in an attempt to squeeze into your party outfit? Maybe you simply had fresh lemon, mint or cucumber in your *water each day? (*gin). Whatever the case – spoil yourself and your household with some fresh seasonal food and keep up this healthy habit as the year gets busy.
These might seem like desperate measures, but we truly believe that you can carry some of your positive holiday energy forward into the new year, and in doing so brighten your days just a little bit longer.
