Bamboo is being touted as the new green fix. Is it worth the hype?
Bamboo is a versatile and exceptionally strong natural material with a higher tensile strength than steel!
Everything from clothing to toothbrushes and kitchen utensils are now made from bamboo as a “sustainable” alternative to conventional wood, plastic and textiles.
Why is bamboo so green?
- Self-propagation If bamboo is harvested while keeping the root system intact, it will easily “replant” itself, cutting down on carbon heavy farming practices.
- No need for fertilizer and pesticides. Bamboo is fast growing and pest resistant, with no need for additional artificial chemicals.
- Carbon absorption. Through photosynthesis, bamboo forests and plantations absorb carbon dioxide and produce clean oxygen.
- Quick regeneration. Bamboo wood grows quickly and can offer a sustainable alternative to slow growing trees
- Lightweight – its light weight makes for easy shipping and transport so bamboo products have a much smaller carbon footprint than heavy lumbar.
