About Osmond Lange Architects and Interiors
Osmond Lange Architects and Interiors created a welcoming space where guests can relax and appreciate the creativity and craftsmanship.
Osmond Lange Architects and Interiors was established in 1929 and is one of the larger architectural practices in South Africa. They have offices in Johannesburg, Durban, East London and Cape Town. The company has built up extensive design and technological expertise specialising in large projects. They have actively participated in some of the largest joint ventures in South Africa as lead consultants.
The Refurbishment Concepts
Osmond Lange Architects and Interiors used soft colours, layered textures and a celebration of South African interior products. This made up the cosy and luxurious interior of this renovated Airstream Trailer that has a Cape Winelands theme pictured first.
All décor elements were carefully chosen as inspired by the rich colour palette of the region’s fynbos, sandstone and vineyards.
The existing walls were rendered in light tones and lime washed timber slats. The head of the bed was replaced with a light and contemporary birch slatted headboard.
Custom-designed wallpaper evokes the sense of walking in a vineyard. The grape leaf motif on the wallpaper repeats throughout the space. A more abstract reference to grapes and leaves is also found in the green tones of the feature wall, wall tiles and blinds.
Each décor item tells a story that originates from its artist or crafter. With most products locally and handmade it adds an authentic South African look. These include the wine-stained cushions and sketches of historic Winelands buildings. There are also handmade ceramic vases, hand painted and stitched cushions and hand-woven throws.
To see this refurbishment for yourself, you will find it on the roof deck of the Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel in Cape Town. The Cape Winelands Airstream is known as the hotel penthouse. This is because it is the largest trailer on the hotel rooftop. In fact, it can easily accommodate parents traveling with a child.
Designer’s Say
“What started off as an idea on a piece of sketchbook turned into a beautifully renovated airstream trailer. Our aim was to create an intimate space that represents the beauty of vineyards. With the introduction of natural fibres, layered textures, mood lighting and a soft calming palette we were able to achieve this look.” – Natasha Raphiri
“Our mood board for the project introduced nature into the space. We did this with natural textures, plants and vineyard imagery. The colour palette of soft, natural tones, timber accents and vineyard colours creates a welcoming and relaxing space.” – Carla Jooste

We couldn’t agree more. We recently returned from a stay there. The experience was brilliant, from beginning to end; the warm welcome, the old elevator ride to the roof, the Airstream trailers, the cheeseboard and the cocktails, the Mother City sunset and having the whole rooftop to ourselves.
