It’s by far one of the most popular places over the weekend! Us South-Africans truly are DIYers who love to get creative, one has to admit that a visit to your closest hardware store is always an exciting experience. With so many hardware stores around, there are a few things to look out for when visiting one. The last thing you want is a bad experience when you are trying to get the job done! We share our top tips for choosing the right hardware store for your needs.  

Knowledgeable Employees  

The worst thing to happen when you are out shopping is getting a shop assistant who has no idea what you are talking about. This is a clear sign of getting the heck outta dodge. If the employees do not know their product range, then this will be a reoccurring problem.   

Staff who keep each other busy instead of helping new customers can also be a problem. Despite the obvious lack of interest in the customer, this will also make you feel like you have reached a dead end. We get it – staff are busy and they need to help each other out, but not at the expense of the customer.  

The Right Stock  

Looking for something specific can be a difficult task. If your hardware store does not have what you are looking for, it becomes an inconvenience. Good hardware stores stay on top of trends and know what their clients are looking for. If what you need is very rare, make sure the sales manager knows about it, and hopefully they offer to order it for you instead of putting you through the painful process of trying to find it from an online vendor with no track-record.   

Customer Service  

Customer service is an important factor in business. When we are treated fairly and with a friendly face, we tend to return to buy more. From buying paint and tools to wood and garden supplies, your hardware store should offer you great customer service.  

Customer service starts much sooner than after your purchase. How you are assisted during your purchase is also a pretty big deal. Salespeople on the floor should be eager to help you with whatever request you may have.
