Valentine’s Day and Chill
Romantics, it’s time to celebrate! Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, which means there’s some extra time to spend with your loved one. Like everything else in the past year, some changes are needed when it comes to celebrating the day of love, but we see it as an opportunity to enjoy some quality time together at home. Here are ten home-based date ideas to show your loved one how much you care (they can also easily include the kids for a special family night in).
Picnic
A picnic is as easy as laying down a blanket and some pillows in the garden. Pack a basket and pick a spot under a tree, on the patio or even on the lounge floor and enjoy some snacks while lazing around.
Suggestion: Visit your local deli for a variety of cheese, bread and meat to make up a delicious snack platter. Add in some fresh fruit for a bit of sweetness and you’re good to go!
Make a Meal
Cooking or baking together is a great way to bond as you’ll have time to chat as you go. Choose a meal that means something special to you or be adventurous and try something brand new, it’s completely up to you.
Suggestion: Once you’re done cooking, set the table and enjoy what you have made together.

Outdoor movie night
Enjoy a movie night with a difference by taking it outside. Hire a projector and screen or project a movie onto a wall. Pack your favourite snacks, a blanket or outdoor chairs and enjoy a night under the stars.
Suggestion: Combine a picnic with your movie night for a date that easily transitions from day to night.
Spa day at home
A little pampering can go a long way! Create a relaxing spa experience at home by running a candlelit bath (add some rose petals, bath salts, essential oils or bubbles for extra romance and relaxation) followed by a soothing massage. Face masks and foot spas will also add to the spa experience.
Suggestion: Stay hydrated with cucumber water and keep the hunger levels down with spa-like snacks such as fresh fruit, nuts, berries, cupcakes, chocolates or a crudité platter.
Games night
Get your competitive side out with a games night. From board games to console or garden/indoor games, this is a great way to have fun while staying indoors.
Dance party
Missing going out and dancing the night away? Create your own dance party where there are no “bad” songs right at home. Create a playlist, clear space for a dancefloor and dance like nobody is watching (because they aren’t).
Scavenger hunt
Create a sense of mystery and send your partner on a scavenger hunt around the house. Hide custom clues in the form of notes, gifts or puzzles that need to be solved to carry on or give them a map to the final prize. The possibilities are endless!
Suggestion: The final prize can be anything from a candlelit dinner to a special present you know they’ll love.
Be Creative
Grab some art supplies and paint together. The internet is a treasure trove of painting tutorials for all skill levels that you can easily do together. When you’re done you can hang your masterpieces on the wall as a reminder of the evening.
Order in
Take a break from cooking and order in from your favourite restaurant and sit down to enjoy the meal together at home. Make it special by setting the table, putting phones away and taking time to chat while you eat.
Take an online class
Learn a new skill together with a short online course. Make it fun by choosing something you can enjoy doing together in the future such as cooking, photography, yoga, playing an instrument, gardening, magic or mixology. It’s more about the experience of learning something new together than the class itself.
The saying goes that love has no boundaries, including the boundary walls of our homes. Use this Valentine’s Day to adapt, show love in a new way and make memories at home that you can cherish for years to come.
