Nadine Marola of Pure Creation
This year’s exhibitor, Nadine Marola believes in doing more of what you love. Which is exactly why she started Pure Creation in 2013 – out of the love for creating beautiful things inspired by the beauty, peacefulness and calmness of nature. Pure Creation’s range of interior décor products are mainly made out of natural sources – wood, clay and linen, and evoke all things wild and free. We spent some time talking to her about her authentic style, and some her favourite things.
What does great home design mean to you?
For me it is in being unique and authentic – not following a trend or style, but expressing your own idea, personality or style .
Which South African brands are on your radar?
We are so blessed with so many talented and inspirational small businesses here in South Africa. The few that I do love most is Evolution Product, Isobel Sippel and Sharon B design.
What is your favourite colour trend right now and how are you going to incorporate it into your style?
I go with what resonates with me and what inspires me at that time. At the moment I am very inspired by the Wabi Sabi style – natural, earthy, simplistic tones. I am so in love with the style, colours and textures – I want to decorate my whole life with it!
Tell us about one of your favourite pieces.
One of my favorites is a painting of Jim Morrison (of the rock band, The Doors) that I did for my husband (he is a big fan!). It was the first birthday present I gave him 12 years ago. It is only a favorite because it has the most sentimental value.
What inspires you?
At the moment, I am very inspired by Wabi Sabi and everything it represents – Simplicity, everything natural, the beauty in imperfection, textures and the small beautiful things in life. And nature of course! Nothing is more inspiring than a walk on the beach or in the forest.
What do you love about what you do?
I love the fact that I am able to do what i love for a living and look after my 2 beautiful children (a 3 year old and a 5 month old). I love that I am in control of my life – I can choose when I want to work and plan my days in a way that works best for me. I am so grateful every day that I am so blessed to be able to do what I do and to be there for my children and see them grow up.
What is on the horizon for Pure Creation in the coming year?
I am busy starting a fun new venture called Oracle Ink – A stationary business with my artworks. With Oracle Ink I want to play a bit more with my artwork, have fun and experiment.
Pure Creation will also be launching two new ranges inspired by South African wildlife and the other beautiful fauna and flora. I want to add new products like linen table cloths and bed throws. Next year I will be adding a custom decorating and designing service where I will be working with the client to make a custom artwork and then develop it into a décor range. Anything from fine art prints to bedding, cushion covers, wall paper – all custom-made and designed to the needs of the customer. I am very excited about this new development for Pure creation and the year ahead.
What is the most beautiful item you own?
The most beautiful item I own is probably a crystal macrame necklace.
Do you have a quote to live by?
‘This too shall pass’ – no matter if the moment is good or bad, we need to feel and appreciate it all because every moment is just passing by. We always just have this one moment.
And another one is “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change!”
