WODC Launch Concrete Design and Art Competitions
“for the love of CONCRETE Design Competition” is back by popular demand at this year’s Cape Town HOMEMAKERS Expo with R36 000 up for grabs. The 2018 Cape Town HOMEMAKERS Expo, in association with World of Decorative Concrete (WODC) will host the increasingly popular for the love of CONCRETE Design and Art Competitions. The selected designs – brought to life by WODC – will be on display at the Expo and visitors are invited to bid on their favourites. All funds raised will be donated to DARG (Domestic Animal Rescue Group).
Says Sandy Edwards, HOMEMAKERS Expo Organiser – Cape Town: “Whether your passion is design or art, we’ve got you covered. Design Competition entries could range from tiles to chairs, tables to functional décor items, kitchenware to light fittings. Simply combine concrete with one other element such as glass, granite, metal, stone or wood, as long as concrete makes up 80% of your design. All we need is your design which can be in 3D or a sketch, and WODC will manufacture the top 30 entries at no cost to the designer.”
Edwards continues that participants in the Art Competition can combine concrete with clay, glass, metals, paint, stone or wood, as long as at least 50% of the artwork is concrete. “Be it a sculpture, painting, jewellery, collage, or any other form of art, the sky’s the limit! Up to 30 entries will be accepted.”
Johan Coetzee, CEO and owner of WODC adds: “We’re extremely excited to see what entrants come up with. We were blown away by the designs last year and decided to add the art competition into the mix this year. We’ll also be offering workshops during the month of June to show prospective participants just how versatile concrete is.”

2017 Cape Town HOMEMAKERS Expo for the love of CONCRETE Design entries
Coetzee continues: “The top entries in both categories will be on display for the duration of the Cape Town HOMEMAKERS Expo and judged by an independent panel. The winners in each category will walk away with a cash prize of R10 000, with second place receiving R5 000 and third R3 000, totaling a whopping R36 000 in prize monies. Visitors will be invited to bid on their favourite design or artwork, with funds raised going to DARG (Domestic Animal Rescue Group).
“Visitors to the Expo are also invited to join us at the WODC Workshop, where we’ll demonstrate the many uses of concrete, as well as The Concrete Shop for one-of-a-kind whimsical and witty concrete products, from dipped décor accessories to bespoke garden ornaments,” Coetzee concludes.
