Top Home Trends for 2021 

Every year, top home trends make their way into our homes. 2020 wrapped up and we were overjoyed when Pantone dropped their colours of the year. Symbolically, they nailed it, and let’s be honest – we’re gonna make something yellow and grey this year. It is, after all, a great combination for home office spaces!  

We have seen a revival in wallpaper trends, and a turn to warm minimalism, as our homes became our ultimate living areas. With so many new trends to explore, we have chosen a few of our favourites you can explore for your next home improvement project.  

Here are our top five décor trends. 

Pantone’s Colours of the Year 

Pantone describes the 2021 colour-inspiration palette as a step forward into a season of quieter, more natural colours that hint at the influence of raw dyestuffs and recycling. Unlike previous years, Pantone launched two colours to take the crown in 2021. Illuminating, a vibrant, well-timed yellow and Ultimate Grey are the colours of the year. Find more colour inspiration here. 

Indoor Gardens  

Balcony gardens have been a trendy topic for a while. Small spaces have been transformed into cosy, jungle-inspired looks and there is no reason to stop there. Bringing the outdoors in is a popular trend for homeowners this year. Wild gardens have also become very popular, where people are letting their gardens overgrow and go with the flow. 

Bringing the outdoors in can be done easily with large windows and doors. Having a full view of your garden all-around your home is one way of having an indoor garden. In some cases, and a trend we love, is seeing areas in homes being set out by designers for a full-on indoor garden. Creating an atrium in your home is also very popular, and this type of indoor garden is truly elegant. 

Double Kitchen Islands 

The kitchen island is an essential element in your kitchen, and having two islands doubles up its functionality. To some, this may seem excessive, but large families and homes benefit from this trend! “With two different kitchen islands, you can also create two separate spaces. The first island can serve for a functional role, such as a food prepping station to make cooking a streamlined process and the second island can be a focal point for the family to sit back, relax and eat” explains luxury kitchen design company, WREN Kitchens. 

Earthy Décor and Comfort 

Along with Pantone’s return to the natural and untouched in their choice to make Ultimate Gray a colour of the year, so are decorating trends following suit. Luxury interior designer, Kate Lester says, “2021 will be all about durable fabrics, comfortable upholstery, and furniture pieces that are versatile and chic.” Gillian Segal adds, “We’ll see lots of earthy palettes and textures in 2021. Think the continuation of plaster and travertines, lots of rattan, camels in lieu of grey, and deep, neutralised hues like olive green and burnt orange.”  

Bidet’s  

The first known bidet appeared in France in the 1700s. Today, many homeowners have them and there is a good reason why. Besides saving on tons of toilet paper, it also makes more sense. Michelle Yan from Business Insider makes a good point. “If you walked barefoot in a park and stepped in dog poo, would you use a couple of tissues to wipe it off? No. You’d probably wash it off with water”. And it’s for similar reasons that people worldwide use bidets. Bidets are also a stylish fit for any bathroom and give it that little bit of opulence.
