Flooring Trends for 2021

Over the last few years, we have seen bold, bright flooring that created a strong sense of home. We  saw smart flooring concepts like waterproof carpeting make its way to the stage. Flooring designers and manufacturers continue to stress why it is essential to opt for high quality and durable surfaces, like wood, tiles or laminate. This is because these surfaces are considerably long-lasting. Trendy, hard surfaces, like wood, tiles and laminate are consistent replacements for natural wood and stone.   

Hardwood  

Notably, the best flooring to walk barefoot on, hardwood also gives room to play with different brush types which have become very popular. From distressed looks to wire-brushed and hand-scraped textures, these looks create interesting and unique shades and colours for your flooring.  

Hardwood floors may be a hefty investment, but it outlasts most other flooring and is also easy to repair. Hardwood floors can become worn in high traffic areas. It can, however, be sanded, smoothed, and refinished if there is significant damage. Keep in mind that it is rarely necessary to replace hardwood floors.  

Tiles and Concrete  

Timeless and classic. Tiles and concrete have remained very popular among interior designers. Tiles go well with many interior styles and tend to last for a very long time. Concrete flooring on the other hand, creates interesting and unique surface finishes that are as unique as you are. 

We have also been seeing tile designs with mixed geometrics in many coffee shops and trendy delis. Bring that feeling to your home by experimenting with interesting geometric tiles in different shades. This look works well in kitchens and bathrooms. Trapezoid, rhombus and diamond-shaped tiles allow for more interesting layouts than simple grids and running bonds.  

Recreating the look of fancy marble and precious and semi-precious stones will also be on every designer’s radar this year. If you are looking for a dramatic, opulent style, this is it. Tile designers are creating looks inspired by onyx and agate, to tiles with an iridescent finish like pearls.   

Laminate  

Flooring trend forecasts for 2021 suggest a large variety of waterproof and low maintenance options as well. Laminate flooring comes in a large variety of options available that are stylish and on-trend. These wood-like styles come in lighter hues with a rougher texture. There are also a variety of sustainable laminate flooring in 2021 allowing homeowners to choose more eco-friendly options of laminate.
